What to expect when attending your first Philly Non-Sports Card Showby
Frank Reighter
Picture yourself on a full-size baseball diamond, filled with wide aisles leading you
to nearly 150 tables of non-sport cards. There will be more non-sport cards, sets,
singles, wrappers, chase cards, promos, and related memorabilia than you have ever seen in
one location. Many of the dealers still collect, so they understand you as a collector. If
you ask a dealer "Do you have...?," and they say "No, but try...., over
there," don't be surprised. Our dealers are all part of the hobby, and your being
satisfied means you will probably be back to buy more stuff. Most dealers are able to add
to your knowledge of the sets you are working on. Be sure to look at stuff from other eras
beside the era you collect. If you collect only certain types of cards (like horror or
science-fiction), mention this to the dealers. They will be able to point out other
dealers who might also have that type of card.
The manufacturers who attend the show are always interested in your opinions. If they
don't sell at the show, they will direct you to dealers who do (or dealers in your home
area).
The show, like the hobby, is a relaxed time; still fun and
still a hobby!
